    Spoon Carving Workshops

    Wood Carving Course

    Thursday 2nd December and/or Thursday 9th December | 7pm to 9pm

Come and learn a new hobby this Christmas and create a present for a loved one (or yourself) at the same time. We’re jumping onto the band wagon of the very fashionable craft of spoon carving. And there’s a reason it’s so popular - whittling is highly tactile, satisfying and therapeutic.

Come and split, carve, axe, cut and scoop to make one of the first things humans ever created: the spoon. They may be something everyone has in their kitchens, but carving your own is a real wonder.

You can come to either of the one-off sessions and make your own spoon.

If you’d like to make a spoon and a fork, you need to come to both Thursday evening sessions because of the time carving two items will take.

Enjoy a glass of wine (or two) and spend a social evening creating something of satisfying beauty.

Coppicer Suzy Williams looks after woodland in Berkshire and will teach you about different types of wood and how to source your own to carve, as well as the tools you’ll need if you want to take on this hobby.

All materials and complimentary drinks included.

'Waterways' Exhibition @ WWT London Wetland Centre

Independent online art retailer BobCat Gallery will be hosting a group exhibition in the gallery space at the WWT London Wetland Centre, Barnes, from 2nd December 2021 - 28th February 2022.

Waterways’ will celebrate the diversity of wetland habitats and wildlife through contemporary art, and includes the work of 11 artists who have been inspired by wetlands near and far.

Celebrating it’s 75th Anniversary this year, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) save critically endangered species from extinction, work with communities around the world who depend on wetlands, and inspire people to take care of nature. Opened in May 2000, the 105 acre London Wetland Centre was created from four disused Thames Water reservoirs, and is now an urban oasis for both wildlife and people within the bustle of the city.

Curator and BobCat Gallery Founder, Catherine Sweet, says: “I am absolutely delighted to work with both the London Wetland Centre and this amazing group of artists to create such a vibrant exhibition celebrating wetlands and the wildlife they support around the globe.

BobCat Gallery specialises in original, affordable artwork, and as such we’re presenting a tightly curated collection of paintings, drawings, linocuts and mixed media work, plus limited edition photography.”

All artwork in the exhibition will be for sale, with 35% from each sale supporting WWT conservation work worldwide. Throughout the exhibition there will also be several special events held in the gallery, including craft workshops for young people, artist talks and curator tours.

The exhibition Private View will take place on Tuesday 7th December from 4pm - 7pm. To register for your free ticket, head to Eventbrite at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/private-view-waterways-exhibition-at-wwt-london-wetland-centre-tickets-207838158527

    Short Plays for Short Journeys

Wild Duck Theatre is delighted that Short Plays for Short Journeys Season Two is now available on all major podcast servers or via link wildducktheatre.com/podcasts

The success of Season One has given us an international reach this time as we include two American, an Irish and two Brits in selecting the very best of new writing.

Performed by a mixture of pro/experienced actors from in and around Richmond, these are a fascinating mix: Covenant Farm and our stewardship of the land; Relic and the memories of an Irish childhood; Sisters-in-Law as a sequel to Brothers in Season One; Butterflies as a riff on the smart home and Crazy Quilts which is an unsettling look at a small town quilting group.

Donations to support the podcast and new writing can be made at wildducktheatre.com/donate

For fuller sponsorship partnership opportunities with Wild Duck Productions, please do get in touch info@wildducktheatre.london

If you're a Writer, Director, or Actor looking to showcase and would like to be a part of future Seasons, we'd love to hear from you.

We are also looking to collaborate with creative sound designers for Season 3 and beyond. For further information please go to www.wildducktheatre.com/who-are-we

Wild Duck Theatre is a London based theatre company established in 2015, with a mission to produce high quality contemporary work, combining the best talent - experienced amateur or polished professional and often a mixture of both. On the eve of his wedding, the young Earl of Harpenden – Bobby to his friends – has offered his room to Joe, an American soldier he drunkenly met the night before. When Bobby’s fiancée Lady Elizabeth turns up, Joe makes a move, thinking she must be Bobby’s ex, the wonderful Mabel Crum. But a Free French lieutenant also has eyes for her... And to complicate matters, Bobby’s future father-in-law turns up too. London in the Blitz, and identities get confused: time to make hay...

This first major London revival of Rattigan’s delectably charming comedy in decades had an acclaimed sold out run in 2019. It was the writer’s greatest hit playing for over 1,000 performances in the West End when it opened in 1943.
