Youth Action Theatre
We are a youth theatre group for 16 to 25 year olds. The group was started back in 1970 by Eric Yardley and is now run by an organisation of volunteers consisting of past-YAT members and others who have assisted over the years. We are also a registered charity (number 1165458).
What does Youth Action Theatre do?
YAT provides an opportunity for any young person, aged between 16 and 25, to acquire or enhance their acting and theatrical skills by participation in drama workshops and on-stage performances. Whilst the work is thoroughly enjoyed, a strict disciplined approach is maintained and dedication required ensuring the maximum possible professionalism and the highest standards in the final production. We put on 3 or 4 productions a year and in between these events run occasional workshops and other theatrical activities. Plays are chosen with a view to including everyone who wants to take part.
Where are Youth Action Theatre based?
YAT is based in the United Kingdom and meets on average three times a week in Teddington, Middlesex and we perform most of our productions at the Hampton Hill Theatre in Middlesex.
Although membership is not restricted to where people live, most members come from within a 15 mile radius of Teddington. If you live outside of this area you should consider if getting to-and-from the Teddington area AT LEAST twice a week is achievable before you join.
How do I join and do I need any experience?
No prior experience is necessary and there are no joining fees. You will not be asked to audition before you join. All you need to bring is a willingness to work hard and be part of a successful team. Joining YAT couldn't be easier... Just turn up to one of our meetings and complete a simple membership form. That's it!
Do I have to pay a fee and are there any restrictions on membership?
Membership is free of charge and everyone between the ages of 16 to 25 is welcome to attend our workshops and join in the productions. You must be able to attend AT LEAST two weekly meetings in Teddington, Middlesex, England from 7:30pm - 10pm.
Are there only opportunities for actors?
Absolutely not! Don't forget that there are opportunities not only for aspiring actors and musicians but also for those interested in the technical side of the performing arts, including costuming, set design and construction, lighting, sound, and stage management to name but a few.
