The Wathen Hall, St. Paul's SchoolThe Wathen Hall is located on the banks of the River Thames within the grounds of St Paul’s School, SW13 9JJ. Opened to the public in 2000, the hall has been praised by performers, recording companies and audiences alike for its intimate performance environment and wonderful natural acoustic that places it alongside central London’s most established concert halls. The Hall hosts an annual concert series has included performances from guest artists such as Dame Emma Kirkby, Dame Mitsuko Uchida, the Aurora Orchestra, Craig Ogden and the Pulitzer prize-winning American composer, Steve Reich.
It is available for hire for performances and recordings. The acoustic is ideally suited to the recording of solo and chamber music, but with a stage area of 135 square meters it is also large enough to accommodate a small chamber orchestra. The hall possesses two Steinway grand pianos (a model D and an AS) which are maintained regularly by Steinway & Sons. Two control rooms are available: a large room with a cable duct to the hall, which enables hirers to bring in their own recording equipment. The Hall has a capacity of 316 on raked seating.
