Richmond Film Society – screening of ‘A Fantastic Woman' (Chile)
18 Sep 2018 - 28 May 2007
RFS's 56th Season opens at The Exchange with the 2018 Foreign Language Oscar winner, 'A Fantastic Woman'.
A young transgender woman finds herself viewed with suspicion by both the authorities and blood relatives when her older lover dies unexpectedly. She is traumatised but this is just the beginning of her troubles as she tries to deal with the legal and familial fallout following his death. Instead of being comforted in a time of grief, she is shunned and criminalised.
A stunning and shocking story set against the background of contemporary Chilean society. At the same time subtle and tender, 'A Fantastic Woman' handles its timely, sensitive subject matter with care and leaves many memorable scenes in the mind long after the picture has run its course.
Members go free. Non-member tickets are £5 (full-time students £3) and can be purchased on the night (cash only), in advance from The Exchange’s Box Office (in person or by telephone on 020 8240 2399) or online at http://exchangetwickenham.co.uk/events/
